In Celebration of Physical Wellness Month | April 15, 2025

In line with the celebration of Physical Wellness Month this April 2025, the University Library successfully conducted a whole-day wellness activity titled “Shelf-Care: A University Library Wellness Activity” on April 15, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Multi-Sport Court (MSC) of the Sports Science and Wellness Center (SSWC).

This initiative is part of the University Library’s continued commitment to fostering a healthy learning environment and organizational culture that supports the well-being, sustainability, and holistic development of its personnel. “Shelf-Care” aimed to empower library staff by promoting physical wellness as a vital component of overall health—encouraging balance, camaraderie, and enjoyment through recreational and sports  activities.

A total of 33 University Library REPS, administrative staff, and representatives from PhilCare participated in the event. The program opened with a prayer and the national anthem, followed by inspiring opening remarks from the University Librarian, Ms. Marybel P. Caasi. To set the tone for an active day, a lively Zumba session got everyone moving. This was followed by team cheer performances from the Yellow Team and Green Team, ramping up the energy and friendly competition.

The game segment, led by Sir Alfred Dalmacio and Sir Eric Legasto, featured four unique and entertaining activities:

  1. Straw Wars: Nguso at Ilong Edition
Mechanics: Each team of 6 players raced to transfer a straw from the first to the last bottle using only their lips and face—no hands allowed!

  2. Slay the Sequence: Baliktarin Niyo 'Yan, mga Bebs!
Mechanics: Teams of 7 competed in a reversal challenge, aiming to be the first to secure four wins through quick thinking and coordination.

  3. Bayanihan: Baywang-Bote Transfer Challenge
Mechanics: A 6-player team relay using only a straw attached to a waistband with a rubber band to transfer bottles to the correctly colored card.

  4. Istasyon Goals: Hamon sa Bawat Hakbang
Mechanics: Teams of 6 completed a series of physical and mental challenges across multiple stations, racing to the finish line.

After a revitalizing lunch break, the Sportsfest began. Participants showcased their athletic skills in badminton, volleyball, and basketball (separate editions for girls and boys).

With high energy and camaraderie throughout the day, the Green Team emerged as the overall champion of the wellness event.

The program concluded with closing remarks from Ms. Sheila May R. Ayran, Chair of the Capacity and Team Building Committee, who commended all participants for their enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

The rest of the day was filled with a variety of team games and sportsfest activities designed to engage and energize everyone involved. The combination of physical challenges and lighthearted competition allowed participants to bond, destress, and reinforce their commitment to self-care and wellness.

“Shelf-Care” was more than just a day of games—it was a celebration of wellness, community, and the vibrant spirit of the University Library family.
